Safety on M/S ELLA

ELLA is CE-B certified vessel. According SOLAS V as well as the German national laws and guidlines she carries more than the normal safety equipment on board.

Here is a list of the main safety equipment on board:

Lifesaving & Emergency Equipment

  • Liferaft: Lalizas-Coastal-Compact, 4-person, packed in valise
  • EPIRB: rescueME EPIRB1 Ocean 
  • AIS MOB system: easyONE (or similar personal AIS beacon)
  • 3 automatic inflatable life jackets, 275 N buoyancy
  • 2 automatic inflatable life jackets, 150 N buoyancy
  • 2 immersion / survival suits
  • 1 lifebuoy with SOLAS-approved buoyant line and self-igniting light
  • 1 additional lifebuoy with throwing line (heaving line)
  • Thermal imaging camera (IR) for night-time search and rescue

  • Extended medical kit

Grab Bags

Grab Bag 1: Full signalling kit (hand flares, parachute flares, smoke signals, laser flare), handheld spotlight, comprehensive first-aid kit, rescue knife

Grab Bag 2: Emergency food rations, emergency drinking water, handheld spotlight, knife

Communication & Signalling

  • SIMRAD VHF/GMDSS 
  • AIS Transciever Class B
  • 1x Handheld VHF radio (Icom)
  • Additional handheld VHF in skipper’s life jacket (Stabo)
  • Personal Locator Beacon (PLB): Ocean Signal rescueME PLB1 in skipper’s life jacket (Stabo)

Fire Protection

  • 1 × portable fire extinguishers
